Assistant Lecturer in Animal Science (Equine Science expertise)
Job description: The Department of Animal Science at the University of Wyoming is seeking applicants for an assistant lecturer position focused on equine science. Preferably, candidates should have expertise in equine nutrition, reproduction, and/or management. This full-time, 11-month appointment will have responsibilities for teaching (60%), extension (35%) and advising/service (5%). The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in equine production and management. Depending on the discipline expertise of the potential hire, these course offerings could include equine production and management, exercise physiology, nutrition and diseases and reproductive management.
DEFHR’s Residential Internship Program
I am the Education Coordinator at Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) and I am asking for your help with spreading the word on DEFHR’s Residential Internship Program. It would be much appreciated if you could please distribute the attached flyer to your students. The next available internship is Session I-09, which takes place from December 29th to January 23rd. It is the perfect time for students to squeeze in a quick internship during Winter Break. The application deadline for Session I-09 is October 31st.

Residential Internship Program in MD
I am excited to inform you that Days End Farm Horse Rescue, Inc. (DEFHR) is currently accepting applications for interns for our new Residential Internship Program. The program will be available to any and all students, over the age of 18, who are willing and ready to experience what it is like to manage and operate a professional, state-of-the-art equine rescue and rehabilitation farm. The internship is available both nationally and internationally, with students living on-site and receiving a weekly stipend of $75.

On the flyer, students can find a brief overview of what their responsibilities will be, along with a list of the internship sessions that we have available through 2009. The flyer also contains our contact information so that they can find out more about the program, should they be interested.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: A 12-month, full-time position (100%) is available at the Iberia Research Station. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating, together with the faculty member, all activities related to ruminant nutrition research conducted in the field and laboratory. Activities include field data collection, analysis (both laboratory and statistical analyses) and technical reporting of ruminant nutrition research data. Additional responsibilities are serving as unit safety coordinator and assisting in management of animal and pasture resources.

Assistant Professor in Equine Production and Management, South Dakota
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Ph.D. in Animal Science or closely related field or DVM degree, completed by appointment date with an emphasis in horse production and management. Successful candidate must be able to teach, interact and communicate effectively (verbally, written and electronically) with colleagues, staff, students, producers and other clientele. Experience in, and an in-depth understanding of, the horse industry and ability to teach equine classes. Experience with and/or interest in working with 4-H members and/or underserved youth. Ability to successfully recruit students from both rural and urban populations.
WILD HORSE BEHAVIOR INTERNSHIP
Wild horses are monitored for location, band members, and behavior. Pregnancy determination by dung is performed in January. Yearlings are removed with veterinary sedation; contraception is delivered remotely to selected mares. Database and photography work, plus varied activities pertaining to wild horse management, fill the office time.
