SPRING 2009 ANWARC NEWS
Our ANWARC Awards Banquet was a huge success, standing room only, with an extremely large group attending! All items on both ballots passed.
Our website has our 2009 Showbill and Rule Book available: http://anwarcclub.tripod.com. We also now have a link to Karen Hesse’s photo album, where you can find many pictures of our folks at the ANWARC shows – the link is at the top of the page of Open Division photos. But there are also photos from the Gaited Division in her photo album, so be sure to take a look. Thank you for sharing with us, Karen!
Show season is less than a month away, so make sure you have current Coggins papers. They do not have to be dated 2009, but they do have to be within the last twelve months. Dr. Tim O’Neill, Country Vet Service in Farmington, will be hosting his Coggins and Vaccination Clinics this month – call 479-267-2685 for details, or download the flier from our website. The March dates at the clinic will be March 21st and March 28th – 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., and additional locations on March 14th and April 4th.
Be sure your club membership is current before our first show so that your points will count for ANWARC awards. In the case of some clubs, if you paid club dues during the middle of the season last year, watch to make sure your membership doesn’t lapse between shows. You can download membership applications to most of our clubs from the Member Clubs page of the ANWARC website.
All shows will be held at Marchant Hills Arena again this year, with the Gaited Division on Saturdays, beginning at 5:00 p.m. (registration 3:30 p.m.) and the Open Division beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays (registration at 8:00 a.m.). Both divisions require that you enter the first classes 30 minutes before show time to give the registration folks time to get your entries transferred to the class sheets.
For the Gaited Division, you must be entered in Classes #1 - #7 by 4:30 p.m. Our shows will again be sanctioned by the Heart of America Walking Horse Association, in order to have a DQP to inspect all horses. There has been a new ruling by the USDA this year – all horses must be inspected with their saddles OFF. Since you are not allowed to go back to your trailers after DQP inspection, this means having your saddle in or very near the DQP inspection area to saddle up after inspection. The first place winner will be re-inspected after the class, again with the saddle removed. They are also now insisting that they inspect horses only TWO classes ahead, instead of three. We will try our best to keep the show running smoothly without any big delays, but that is going to take YOUR help to do so. Please be ready for inspection at the earliest moment they will allow you to be inspected! I can not stress this enough! Also, in regard to adding classes – once the class sheet leaves registration to go to the DQP, you will not be able to add a class, last minute.
For the Open Division, you must be entered in your halter classes by 9:00 a.m. PLEASE respect our deadlines! It makes it hard on everyone if you expect us to make exceptions for you because you are running late. We want to run a professional show that starts ON TIME, and that requires your cooperation.
We will have three double point shows again this year, in May, June, and October. The additional double point show was a real boost to our money for year end awards this past year, so it IS for your benefit to have three. That will make a total of ten shows, over seven show dates, from April through October. The “up” side to this is that you can attend three shows, if two are double point, to satisfy the requirement to show in half the shows to qualify for points for year end awards.
Work Hours. Need I say more? Yep, you still must work four hours to fulfill your work requirement for year end awards. Y u can get some or all of your work hours in at almost any show of the season. Too busy showing to work? Come out and work at the alternate division of our show! PLEASE don’t wait until the end of the season (some people wait to see if they might be winning anything before they commit to work). If you wait too long, don’t be surprised if there are no work hours left for you. You can always contact me directly to schedule work hours, even if another club is sponsoring the show – each club usually welcomes extra workers!
I’ll see you in the saddle SOON ~
