The "Dandies," the Old Fort Days Dandies, from Fort Smith, AR. are coming to town. Who are the Dandies? "D" is for dedicated. "A" is for awesome. "N" is for nervy. "D" is for determined. "I" is for impressive. "E" is for exciting. "S" is for smiles. These are just a few of the words that could be used to describe the all-girl equestrian quadrille team that will be performing at Horse Festival March 29.  This group is known for their high speed, precision riding; executing difficult and daring maneuvers on horseback. Their routine is set to spirited music, accompanied by a caller and it is often referred to as "Square dancing on horseback."

Living up to the heritage and reputation of a long-standing program is quite a challenge; but the Old Fort Days Dandies was proven to be one of the top quadrilles in the nation in 2002. The Dandies were awarded the championship flag at the 2002 Texas State Quadrille Competition.

This year, as in years past, they have decided to take the team on the road. Whenever and wherever the girls perform, spectators are thoroughly entertained by a performance filled with glitz and glitter; as well as breath-taking excitement. After performances at their home rodeo and several other engagements in Arkansas and Oklahoma, they are planning on hitting the road and heading out of state.

Each year the girls must tryout for a position on the team. They are selected not only for their riding skills, but also for their character, scholastic achievement and superior horsemanship. Dedication is a high priority on the list for anyone who desires to be a part of the team, they practice for hours each week, through the cold of winter and the heat of Summer. The program gives young girls an alternative to many of the undesirable activities that tempt the youth of today. The program teaches responsibility and builds character and a positive self-esteem.

2009 Members include: Lindsay Alexander of Spiro, OK, Desmynn Corry of Sallisaw, OK, Julianne Damante of Alma, AR, Kaeli Drain of Stilwell, OK, Chelsea Fernandez from Van Buren, AR, Katie Haraway from Sallisaw, OK, Audra Harris of Prairie Grove, AR, Shelby Howard of Muldrow, OK, Lauren Howard of Fort Smith, AR, Jessica Lewis of Mountainburg, AR, Katie Moore of Branch, AR, Macy Null of Muldrow, OK, Casey Oliver of Van Buren, AR, Alex Pierce of Sallisaw OK, Larissa Robertson of Cameron, OK, Tanar Sigel of Muldrow, OK, Maigan Sorenson of Sallisaw, OK, Ashleigh Staggs of Van Buren, AR, Lindsey White of Fort Smith, AR.
